I ordered this cutter over the Labour Day weekend. Elite tools processed my order and my order arrived to my front door about a week later - impressive, even moreso given that my order had to travel from Quebec to Vancouver Island, British Columbia!
Very nice solid three-winged head with brazed and polished alloy cutters - works very well on my 1.5 hp Delta shaper. Decided to go with the 3/4 inch bore for the extra mass the slightly bigger cutter head would provide over the 1/2 inch bore. I was impressed with cut quality of this cutter.
I used the cutter to replicate exterior handrail detailing for a Victorian House, enabling me to produce a three-bead profile into 1 1/2 inch thick stock. The two 1/4 diameter beads, centred within the 1 inch cutting height of the cutter, offers good balance and proportion. I was able to to create three beads by lowering the spindle and making a second pass to cut the final bead.
I hope to get a few spacers, so I can take a stab at using this cutter to mill some beaded baseboard. I hope to centre three beads in 1x6 milled stock. I'll also likely be purchasing a cutter head to run an ogee (or bead and cove) profile in a 1x2 baseboard cap - also thinking about getting the multi-profile three-winged cutter head for the options it provides.
Debated about going with insert cutters, but the solid cutters Elite offers are reasonably priced (when compared to other manufacturers that offer similar products). Didn't know what to expect at first - but I'll be buying more!
